What the candidates are saying - Greens

We asked all political parties to set out their position on the future of the Roseburn Path ahead of the Scottish elections, and we welcome the responses received.

Several candidates have given strong, clear commitments to protect the path as a valued green corridor and safe, accessible route for walking, wheeling and cycling. These responses recognise the path’s importance to the local community and align closely with our call to safeguard it for future generations.

Whilst most candidates gave us their full support, we were disappointed by the response from the Greens, particularly given the impact on biodiversity and the concerns over active travel provision. That said, the Greens have been very engaged with our campaign, and we are committed to working with them as they make a final decision.

Statement from the Scottish Greens

"Our current position on the Roseburn Path was set out most recently by our council group co-convenor Chas Booth. Please see his letter below:

‘Steve Cardownie is wrong to claim that Edinburgh’s Green Group has already decided against the Roseburn path option for the North-South tram (Tram plans look good on paper but where is the money coming from?, 15 April).

We have always been clear that we support high-quality public transport that reduces reliance on private cars.

And while it’s no secret that we have concerns about the Roseburn route - particularly its impact on active travel and biodiversity - we also have worries about the costs and implications of the alternative route options.

We therefore believe it would be premature to rule out any option before the consultation report is published. We will consider that report carefully, and continue to listen to residents and stakeholders, before reaching a view on the best route.”

It would have been amazing if the Greens did something about the trailer camp people in Granton ruining the environment on a daily basis. They rise fires with tons of black acrid smoke almost daily, burst water pipes and waste hectolitres of water and dump all sorts of rubbish around. Imagine if I did something like this?
